Oesophageal video capsule endoscopy

The Oesophageal video capsule is designed specifically to help your doctor see inside your oesophagus to diagnose diseases such as oesophageal varices, which may result in fatal bleeding, gastro oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and Barrett’s oesophagus, which is an early indication for oesophageal cancer. The oesophagus is a tube shaped organ that connects the throat to your stomach.

The oesophageal VCE provides a patient-friendly alternative to oesophageal endoscopy and the associated sedation and discomfort.
The oesophageal VCE measures 11 mm x 26 mm and weighs less than 4 grams contains an imaging device and light source at both ends of the capsule and takes up to 14 images per second or a total of 2,600 colour images as it passes down the oesophagus.
