Gallstones

No symptoms

If you have gallstones found incidentally on a scan for another reason there is no need to be alarmed. Gallstones are present in 8% of the population over 40 and 20% of the population over 60 years old. If they are not causing you any problems then there is no need to remove them or the gallbladder.

Symptoms

Typical symptoms are pain in the right upper abdomen and back. They can cause yellow jaundice or upset the pancreas gland. If you have symptoms of bloating, belching, wind heartburn or feeling full after a small meal these may be related to gallstones. Please contact us urgently for an appointment if you have symptoms from gallstones.
